For those who arent aware, my journey at the gym has been a little more than just getting fit and healthy. I have also been making a come back from major knee reconstruction.
Nearly 2 years ago I dislocated my knee playing soccer (google: tibiofemoral dislocation if you are game lol) ...
In doing so, I also ruptured my ACL + PCL, knee capsule and my posterolateral corner, I pulled my biceps femoris muscle, popliteus tendon and LCL off from the bone.
Obviously I needed some major surgery after that. My new knee: four hamstring tendon grafts as my ACL, synthetic ligament for my PCL and everything else was reattached.
This injury impacted what felt like every aspect of my life. I needed help to do everything, get around, go to the bathroom, shower, make food, sit down, get into a car, all small things you take for granted. There were definitely times during this recovery that I didnt think I could make it through or I thought it would be easier to just give up. If it wasn't for Becky encouraging me to come into EC I'd probably still be crying somewhere feeling sorry for myself lol.
A few months later and I nervously made my way up the stairs and into my first session at Enliven Coaching with coach Amy. Ams put out the second biggest box for me to squat onto and I remember how painful it was, my PB on a squat is now 85kg.
Going through hard times you definitely need people in your life who support you, encourage you and want whats best for you. I found this in all of the coaches at EC as well as with everyone who trains in the gym.
These days you will see me doing almost everything at the gym, my mental health and physical health are both back on track. I feel the best I have ever felt (even prior to my knee injury). Instead of looking back on this situation with sadness or anger I am grateful for everything it has taught me and who I have because of it.
I definitely wouldn't have made it this far without everyone who has been there for me. A big shout out to my EC FAM, for the support, love and encouragement!
